Gardens in Cornwall

Beautiful Cornish Gardens for Everyone

Cornwall has some gorgeous gardens and they come in all shapes and sizes and for all ages as well. Spring is when they really are at their best but all year round there is something to see and the autumnal colours can be quite spectacular. Why not come for a Spring holiday here at Pollaughan and if coming in Feruary or March we will give you free entry for 2 to a garden of your choice but you must request it on the booking form.

Most are really family friendly and while the larger NT ones and places such as Heligan and Trebah are simply fabulous and a real ‘must see’ there are many smaller ones here locally on Roseland and further afield that are well worth a visit. Here at Pollaughan, in all the cottages, we have lots of info and guides for garden lovers.

Visit the Gardens of Cornwall website for all the gardens open to the public – too numerous to mention them all here !

On The Roseland so within a very short drive you can go to these two simply amazing little gardens but check their websites for opening hours:

Poppy Cottage Garden is an inspirational plantsman’s garden combining colour, form and structure. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, Poppy Cottage Garden covers an acre full of colour for all year-round interest.

Planted as a series of rooms, which are small gardens in themselves, it is brimming with bulbs, herbaceous, grasses, shrubs and even exotics, mainly colour themed, and with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and a piece of homemade cake. There is also a small orchard with unusual ducks and chickens, and a nursery area with a wide range of herbaceous plants for sale.

Lamorran Gardens in St.Mawes  boasts over four-acres of sub-tropical paradise planted with an adventurous range of plants that flourish in its waterside location. A small but simply stunning garden, it ranks highly in our ‘small is beautiful’ collection, and featured in the Nation’s Favourite Gardens broadcast by the BBC in 2002.

Our Favorites

NT Trelissick Garden Perched at the head of the Fal Estuary, and just 4 miles from Pollaughan, boasts jaw-dropping views and a huge array of plant species. Quite literally at the water’s edge, you can catch the ferry from Truro, Falmouth or the Roseland Peninsula to land at this waterside garden and exotic wonderland. At its heart, the 40-acre garden itself is a year-round display of colourful blooms, noted for its camellias, rhododendrons and a collection of photinia and azaleas.

But its not just the tranquil gardens that sets Trelissick apart from the rest; nestled in no less than 375-acres of parkland and woodland, you can while away a whole day even with the littlest children as the open walk down to the water’s edge is fabulous and the gardens not all prissy but great to explore. Extensive trails meander through the woodland, traverse the parkland and follow the riverside. Even within the garden’s grounds, a little exploration under the canopies of oak, beech and conifers will unveil hidden treasures such as the log summerhouse, a water tower and a footbridge. There is a really lovely shop, gallery, cafe and restaurant.

Trebah Garden is a superb Cornish garden for all the family and one of our favourites, with 25 acres of sub tropical ravine running from the 18th century house through cascading water gardens with Koi Carp, glades of tree ferns, hydrangeas and rare species, down to a private beach on the Helford River. This is ideal for picnics and has superb views over the river mouth. Trebah is fabulous all year round, is very child friendly and has garden trails for all ages – the shop and cafe are superb.
