Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have some impact on the environment and community.
By making positive choices during your visit, you can help to look after Cornwall and the Roseland and especially Pollaughan ensuring that it retains everything that is special about it for your next visit. If you want to know more, just ask us, meanwhile:
1.Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Here at Pollaughan we take recycling very seriously, as we hope you do at home! Say no to packaging where possible, especially plastic bags. You will find an easy to use recycling system so you can join in. The permanent population of Cornwall is just 500,00 people and yet over 5.5 million visitors come here each year, so imagine how much rubbish that is creating and the landfill requirement! Please help us to reduce as much of this as possible by recycling, re-using and cutting down to only essential packaging and carrier bags.
2. Reduce traffic: walk, cycle or use public transport
Get out of that car! Walking, cycling and using the great ferry services around the river are great ways to see the area without adding to traffic. You can get a bus from the end of our lane to St.Mawes and then a ferry on to Falmouth. Make sure to explore what is here on the doorstep as there are some fantastic places to see very nearby. There are more and more fully accessible routes becoming available, ensuring access for all, too. Do ask for any help on great days out here on Roseland and around the River area.
3. Stay Local, Eat Local, Buy Local, See Local
Supporting local producers and services – this way your visit has a real benefit to the communities of the Roseland. And you get to see and taste the real quality that Cornwall offers. Visit the farm shops, village stores, pubs and cafes. Much of our distinctive culture is evident in the hundreds of community events that happen throughout the year and are well worth supporting – and the food and drink is simply fantastic. There are fabulous galleries and craft shops here on the doorstep and we can point you to where the best local food can be found. Every £1 spent on local products is worth £2 to the local economy.
4. Chill out – switch off….
Enjoy a fabulous, light touch holiday…..please switch off lights that are not being used to preserve energy but also so you can really enjoy the fabulous night sky here on Roseland. Every single effort helps protect and enhance our beautiful environment. It takes a moment and it’s all worth it! Our external night lights are on timers and altered according to day length.
5. Follow the Countryside Code: respect – protect – enjoy.
The Countryside Code reminds visitors to protect plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; consider other people and users when visiting the countryside.
Enjoy your holiday and thank you for helping us look after somewhere very special !
