We were delighted to pick up a SILVER award this year in 2011, and well done to our lovely friends Mark and Barbara at Roundhouse and also Old Lenwarnick who gained GOLD. both very different offerings to us... but similar to each other.... WELL DONE everyone in CORNWALL as this is a geat celebration of our industry
We had a lovely evening at the Awards ceremony which are sort of the 'Oscars' of the industry.... we were one of three finalists in the Small Self Catering Catagory..for the unitiated.the outcome has nothing to do with what your visiotrs actually think, your repeat business rate or your occupancy levels, judging is done by a panel who sit around a table and look at a short report by someone who has popped out for a quick reccie and an entry form marked like an exam sheet matrix plus a breeze of your website and marketing.... in this catagory they say they are looking for a really high quality product, a very strong committment to sustainability and accessibility (apparantly), and a demonstration of innovation and customer service...
The Regional and National Awards are strange things...we have learnt much since the early days from both entering and judging in these awards... They are a bit like taking an exam or test and is marked through a matrix system, though strangely the final decision is made by a panel who generally never actually visit or experience the holiday or meet the owners, weird that ..
Visit Britain come every year to inspect us against a whole set of criteria, and since creating our business in 2002 Pollaughan Cottages have consistently been awarded 5* in Willows, Meadows and Fallow and also the Gold status reflecting exceptional cleanliness and customer service. We have 4* in the Farmhouse, as it has no en-suite bathroom it cannot be 5*, such is the way the criteria works.
